THUSC Moves in New Direction
THUSC is excited to announce the hiring of Tom Atencio as Club Director. This new position was formed to further the club's efforts to providing local players the opportunity to play at the highest levels. It is time for our club to cast away the tradition of our "neighborhood club" roots and move forward with a commitment to the game that will provide the best of training to our coaches and teams. We continue to strive toward being the best organization for all of the members of our club.

Tom has ten successful years directing youth clubs and serves US Soccer in many roles, including coaching at the regional level, directing State Select (ODP) Programs and scouting for Project 2010. As a Region IV Staff coach, Tom is involved in selecting and training the top players in the 14 western states, a player pool that leads to national team selection. As a Project 2010 Scout, Tom evaluates and selects players for Project 2010, an ambitous plan put forth by US Soccer in hopes of winning the Men's World Cup by 2010.

In addition to serving US Soccer, Tom's history of club building is quite impressive. Tom's club have become state powers (winning multiple state championships) and have provided many colleges (University of Montana, Gonzaga University, University of Southern Colorado, Western Babtist, Boise State University and the University of Idaho, among others) with players.

Coach Atencio's primary roles will be to administer the day-to-day operations of the club, including handling public relations, training teams and coaches, planning THUSC events, clinics, camps, as well as performing other general administrative duties.

Look to the forthcoming Winter Newsletter for more information on Tom and his qualifications. Feel free to contact THUSC with questions on the Club Director position and Tom Atencio.

THUSC Now a Nike Club!
After months of meetings with various apparel manufacturers and negotiations with local retailers, THUSC has entered into an agreement to outfit all teams and coaches in Nike apparel beginning in June of 2000. Nike will be providing sponsorship for the tournament (now called the THUSC Invitational Presented by Nike), and all THUSC teams will be outfitted in the state of the art "Mercurial" uniform style. In addition to the uniform change, THUSC is changing colors to a slick black/white combination. No more white socks!
